Thirty seven years after it was released, Sholay is being remade in 3D using the latest technology. But now the 3D version is mired in controversy. Ramesh Sippy, one of the warring Sippy family members, has moved court over the rights of the film demanding his share in the film. However the makers of the 3D version have different version to say, they said, "Three months before the release of Sholay in 1975, Ramesh Sippy resigned as a partner of Sippy Films. After that he was involved only as a film director and not at the corporate level."

Ramesh Sippy had declined to comment on this issue out of court and have said he will fight for the rights. The case came to hearing and was deffered to a later date. The judge refused to give injunction order as per Sippy's request
